The spinner for Lucknow Super Giants, Digvesh Rathi, has garnered attention during IPL 2025, not only for his gameplay but also for his contentious 'Notebook Celebration.' This celebration has resulted in him facing fines on several occasions throughout the tournament. During the IPL Auction, Rathi was acquired by the Lucknow Super Giants for a base price of INR 30 Lakhs.
Disciplinary Actions Against Rathi
Throughout IPL 2025, Rathi has been penalized three times for violating the IPL Code of Conduct, primarily due to his provocative celebration. His first fine was 25% of his match fees during a match against Punjab Kings on April 2, 2025, which also resulted in him receiving a demerit point.
In his second infraction, he faced a more severe penalty of 50% of his match fees for repeating the same Level 1 offense under Article 2.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct during a match against Mumbai Indians on April 5, 2025.
The third incident occurred in a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, where Rathi received a one-match suspension after accumulating five demerit points.
Incident in Recent LSG vs SRH Match
In a recent match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, after Abhishek Sharma's dismissal, Rathi celebrated with his signature notebook gesture, which led to a heated confrontation between the two players. Abhishek, visibly upset, approached Rathi, resulting in a tense standoff until the on-field umpires intervened. Rishabh Pant also stepped in to help defuse the situation. Following the match, the two players were seen continuing their discussion, with Abhishek still appearing frustrated until their coach, Vijay Dahiya, intervened to calm him down.
